Introduction to Drawing with Ian Torney, June 22

Anyone can draw! Drawing is elemental. If you are a beginner and want to start to learn how, or an already accomplished artist seeking to refine your skills and learn new methods and perspectives, this workshop is for you. We will begin with introductory warm-up exercises in true seeing, exploring the abstract expressive qualities of line, then apply those skills to drawing with value and tone, and to develop visual literacy through observational drawing methods. Workshop participants will complete several studies of their own hands and of other human anatomy, and complete a finished drawing by the end of the session; see former-student examples. Participants are encouraged to continue to develop their drawing skills at the next two summer drawing sessions offered – PORTRAIT DRAWING on Saturday July 20th, and STILL LIFE DRAWING on Saturday August. Open to high school or college age students and adults of any artistic ability.

Saturday June 22,  10am to 1pm, $55, all materials included,
