Paint BIG Landscapes w/ Cynthia Rosen, March 5&6

Description:

Award winning artist, Cynthia Rosen is known for her big, loose and colorful paintings. The focus of this workshop is to translate your image to a larger than usual format in your media of choice. There will be a review of composition with a consideration to scale and the use of layering techniques and color in order to direct the eye. She will introduce the use of a thumbnail and it’s role in painting large. One or two 24x30” or 24x36”  surfaces is recommended. Your surface (appropriate to your medium) can be anything from prepared paper, gessoed cardboard, canvas, or masonite. Cynthia will demonstrate in oil on the first day using both brush and palette knife and in mixed media and pastel on day two.  It is recommended that you bring several references to work from including photos or smaller paintings. You can also use the instructor’s images. Dependent on the image and your goal, you will use either 1 or 2 surfaces. Bring your medium of choice- oil, acrylic, pastel or mixed media. (watercolor is not advisable due to time constraints). This workshop is suitable for anyone who wants to work big and spread their wings.  Level of competency is irrelevant, only the desire to focus on or transition to a large format and have fun.

Cynthia Rosen attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Mass. focusing on non-objective work early in her career. After teaching for a number of years, Rosen turned to painting plein air with studio work more recently added. Ms. Rosen’s has accrued numerous awards from some of the most prestigious Plein Air events in the country with work having been shown and now found in both private and corporate collections throughout the country. Streamline Art Videos has produced two instructional videos “Cynthia Rosen - Expressive Landscape Painting: Palette Knife in Plein Air” and “Cynthia Rosen - Still Life with Palette Knife”.

She has been featured in: American Art Collector (Women in Art), Fine Art Connoisseur, Plein Air Magazine (“Cynthia Rosen: Asserting Their Own Voice As A Plein Air Painter”, “A Pioneering Spirit” and “Pushing Boundaries”), Southwest Art Magazine (“Cynthia Rosen: Life in Motion”) and most recently a feature article in Practique Des Arts (Tirer le Meilleur de l'Huile Sur le Motif"). Rosen has additionally served as faculty for the Plein Air Convention and Expo and is scheduled to serve again in 2023.
