The Still Life: Palette Knife Technique w/ Cynthia Rosen, Feb 15-16

Description:

The focus of this weekend workshop will be painting very colorful still lifes inside the studio in either oils or acrylics. These still lives will be a feast for the eyes to see!

Your tools can be brushes or palette knives but the instructor will be doing her demonstration with a palette knife. Cynthia will address composition and shapes, the cools and warms of light and shadow, understanding color relationships, color mixing, and the role of value in a painting. All levels and individual painting styles are welcome. Just be prepared to have fun and leave the wintery whites at the doorstep! Deadline for sign up, Feb 10, 2020.

Saturday & Sunday, Feb 15 & 16, 9am-4pm $285

SUPPLY LIST:
If painting in oils or acrylics, my basic color set up is:

Prussian (or Thalo Blue)

Cobalt Blue or if you already are using Thalo, bring Ultramarine Blue

Purple Dioxozine

Alizarin Permanent

Cadmium Red Medium

Cadmium Orange

Cadmium Yellow

Lemon Yellow

White (I like to have separate zinc and titanium whites and I will explain why in the class)

solvent free gel or Galkyd (helps the paint dry faster) Gamsol

1-2 Painting surfaces (canvas, board, or the appropriate paper) per day depending on how fast you paint.

Palette knife and/or brushes. I will have a few extra knives on hand.

optional luscious colors: Gamblin’s radiant turquoise, portland grey cool, transparent orange (and no, I do no carry greens or brown paints, I mix my own.

I use Gamblin products because they have great density for palette knife painting but feel free to work with your favorite brand of choice. If using acrylics, please find comparable colors and bring ultramarine as well as or instead of cobalt. Also bring your medium of choice and Retarder to slow down the drying process.

*For other brands, please be careful that your Red does not have too much orange in it. It will limit your mixing options.

* If using brushes, Gamasol is the only oderless solvent we allow at the studio

Roll of paper towel or rags

Plastic bags for your trash

Jackson Art will provide you with an easel or bring one if you have it.

Coffee & tea available for purchase at studio.
