Melanie Barash Levitt is an award-winning painter based in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, where she also owns and operates Jackson Art Studio & Gallery. A 1990 graduate of Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Levitt has spent decades refining her impressionistic style. Working primarily with oils, palette knives, and rubber shaper tools, she builds rich layers of paint to capture the light, atmosphere, and beauty of the natural world.

As a plein air artist, Levitt paints outdoors in all seasons, braving extreme weather to capture the mood of a location. Her favorite subjects celebrate the beauty of the Northeast—including the dramatic peaks of Mt. Washington, famous autumn foliage, winding rivers, historic New Hampshire farms, and the rugged coastlines of Maine. On frigid winter days, it’s not uncommon to find her painting in the snow, standing on a bathmat to keep her feet warm. Passionate about teaching, she shares her love of painting by leading workshops, retreats, and international painting trips..

Levitt is an artist member of the Salmagundi Club in New York City and has been featured  multiple times as a faculty presenter at the Plein Air Convention, where she demonstrated palette knife and mark-making techniques. Her career has been highlighted on television programs such as Boston Chronicle (WCVB-TV ABC) and NH Chronicle (WMUR 9), alongside featured coverage in numerous newspapers and regional arts publications.

An active participant in juried plein air events and gallery exhibitions across the US, Levitt has received numerous awards for her work. Her paintings reside in private and corporate collections across the globe.
